what is archaeology

Archaeology is a sub-discipline of anthropology (the study of all aspects of humankind—biological, cultural, and linguistic; extant and extinct) which is concerned with the study of the past through the systematic recovery and analysis of material remains (artifacts, monuments, and human and/or animal remains). This sub-discipline of anthropology combined with a multi-disciplinary approach (the incorporation of several academic disciplines or professional specializations) enables researchers to answer broader research questions regarding how humans and environments have either changed, varied, or remained the same over both space and time.
