education mission statement
Archaeological research can be used by educators in Maine’s schools to supplement Maine history and to foster a better understanding of Native Americans in the Northeast. One of the key goals outlined in The Maine Archaeological Society’s (TMAS) mission statement is to “promote archaeological awareness through education and publication”. Archaeology offers an additional way of learning about the past that can be added to materials in history or social science classes. Educators without a background in archaeology can find resources and understand basic principles that will allow them to effectively integrate material into their lessons. TMAS is excited to offer that link between the classroom and archaeological educational materials.
